Certifications/Qualifications

  • NYS Special Education Certification
  • Experience working with students with significant cognitive and developmental disabilities preferred.
  • Knowledge of alternate assessment and functional curriculum frameworks.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction using evidence-based strategies tailored to each student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP).
  • Implement a functional academic curriculum focused on communication, social interaction, independence, and pre-vocational skills.
  • Support students in activities of daily living and foster independence across school settings.
  • Collect data and progress monitor student goals and objectives aligned to IEPs.
  • Collaborate with related service providers, teaching assistants, general education teachers, and families.
  • Create a safe, respectful, and engaging learning environment that fosters student growth.
  • Facilitate mainstreaming opportunities as appropriate.
  • Participate in team meetings, annual reviews, and professional development activities.
  • Maintain compliance with state and federal special education laws and district policies.
