Job Responsibilities

The administrative position is responsible for all aspects of the District’s transportation program, including the leadership of the overall safety, efficient operation, and maintenance of the transportation department. Responsibilities include:

  • Serves as the liaison between school administrators and parents for the transportation of students to/from public and private school locations;
  • Prepares reports and ensures compliance with regulatory agencies, including NYS Education Department and Department of Transportation;
  • Plans and administers transportation department inventory and cost records of operations and personnel, including, fleet preventative maintenance/obsolesce, recruitment, training, and annual compliance of staff and related budgets;
  • Oversees transportation fleet maintenance and repairs, scheduling school bus routes, staff bidding process, safety training programs, scheduling and trip tracking systems in accordance with contractual and regulatory requirements;
  • Conducts investigations and files reports on all bus accidents, including but not limited to injury reports, insurance reports, and fleet repairs;
  • Coordinates with Superintendent, advises and communicates with administration, staff, students, parents, and community on safety conditions of roadways;
  • Plans, develops, and implements recruitment, training, performance evaluations and disciplinary procedures of all transportation staff;
  • Contributes to a positive working environment through effective communications and demonstrated tact, courtesy, and dependability;
  • Interprets and administers collective bargaining agreements as it relates to transportation department processes and procedures; and additional responsibilities as required.

 

Compensation & Benefits

Salary: $110,000 - $120,000/yr, commensurate with experience

District Administrative Support Staff (DASS)

 

Qualifications            

  • Associate’s degree (or higher) from a regionally accredited registered college or university and minimum of five (5) years of leadership and supervisory experience in the field of transportation management, including but not limited to experience with maintenance and repair of automotive equipment, operation of multi-passenger vehicles, and dispatching of motor equipment preferred;
  • Must possess NYS CDL-B license with a P and S endorsement and be able to pass NYS Department of Transportation physical performance test;
  • Solid knowledge of best driving safety practices, including NYS motor vehicle laws and applicable regulations of NYS Department of Transportation and NYS Education Department; and 
  • Ability to plan and direct the work of subordinates, maintain data, records, and produce reports, as well as establish and maintain good working relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and administration.

 

Personal Characteristics

Seeking an innovative, resourceful, hardworking, industrious, and collaborative team player who has thorough knowledge of standard transportation methods, techniques, operation and repair of school buses with aptitude to resolve problems.  Effective communication, organization, and project management skills required with demonstrated ability to keep abreast of industry trends and development in the pupil transportation industry.  Must exhibit good judgment, mental alertness, tact, and courtesy.

Shenendehowa Central School District has anticipated vacancies and is accepting applications on a continuous basis.  The nationally recognized Transportation Department is seeking culturally proficient school bus monitors/attendants who actively foster an engaging environment where students can develop confidence in their own success consistent with the Profile of a Shenendehowa Employee.

 

Job Responsibilities

This position is responsible for assisting the school bus driver in maintaining order, safeguarding students and supervising the loading and unloading of buses.  Responsibilities include:

  • Inform and maintain the safe and orderly conduct of student passengers on a school bus while in transit;
  • May assist students with disabilities as defined in student’s individualized education program (IEP);
  • May tend to the special needs of a student based on their individual IEP;
  • Must comply with all State, Federal, Agency, and NYS Education Department requirements;
  • Must follow all safety rules and Transportation laws and regulations; and
  • Assists school bus driver as needed and other responsibilities as assigned.

 

Compensation & Benefits

Substitute School Bus Monitor/Attendant $16.81/hr

Opportunity for advancement to probationary School Bus Monitor/Attendant position, starting at Step 1 ($16.89/hr)

CSEA Collective Bargaining Agreement

 

Certifications/Qualifications

Minimum age is 19.  Qualified candidates: must possess high school diploma or high school equivalency diploma (GED), complete a pre-employment background check, and pass a NYS Education Department physical performance test. 

 

Ability to communicate with young individuals, command their respect, and carry out both verbal and written directions.  Exhibit good motor skills and hand/eye coordination, mechanical aptitude, manual dexterity, thoroughness, good judgment, mental alertness, tact and courtesy.  Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and administration.  Physical condition commensurate with the responsibilities of the position.

Job Responsibilities

This position is responsible for the daily operation of a school bus for the safe and orderly transportation of student passengers on an assigned route.  Responsibilities include:

  • Monitor and maintain the operational and cleanliness condition of the school bus, including complete safety inspections, both before and after each trip, reporting any operational defect to supervisor;
  • Maintains records of mileage, routes, times, and incidents;
  • Provide safe transportation of students;
  • Follows maps of routes and pick up/drop off points;
  • Informs and maintains the safe and orderly conduct of student passengers;
  • Follow all safety rules, transportation laws and regulations;
  • Must comply with all State, Federal, Agency, DMV, DOT, and NYS Education Department requirements;
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

 

Compensation & Benefits

Substitute School Bus Driver $22.53/hr

Pre-service safety training and required refresher training

Certifications/Qualifications

Minimum age is 21. Qualified candidates: must possess high school diploma or high school equivalency diploma (GED), complete a pre-employment background check, pass a NYS Education Department physical performance test and Department of Transportation 19A physical, and have a valid NYS driver’s license with ability to obtain NYS CDL-B license with P and S endorsements.

 

Must have good driving skills with demonstrated desire to learn. Good working knowledge of safe driving practices, traffic laws, and regulations.  Ability to operate a large vehicle under difficult driving and road conditions.  Ability to communicate with young individuals, command their respect, and carry out both verbal and written directions.  Exhibit good motor skills and hand/eye coordination, mechanical aptitude, manual dexterity, thoroughness, good judgment, mental alertness, tact and courtesy.  Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and administration. Physical condition commensurate with the responsibilities of the position.
