Reports to:      Directors of Facilities & Operations

Overview of Role

The Assistant Director of Energy Management Services is responsible for consolidating all energy-related matters into a proactive, district-wide strategy. The primary objective is to develop and implement a district-wide Energy Management Plan (EMP) to achieve a 10% reduction in total energy consumption across 1.4 million square feet of district facilities. This role serves as the single point person for energy initiatives, coordinating technical monitoring, operational oversight, and strategic planning. 

Such responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and maintain the District Energy Management Plan (EMP) by quantifying current energy use and identifying remediation plans.
  • Establish site-specific goals for a 10% energy reduction and a 5% carbon footprint reduction.
  • Perform daily monitoring of the METASYS energy management system to track usage trends and identify HVAC inefficiencies.
  • Conduct monthly building walkthrough audits to evaluate conditions and categorize needs into capital construction or routine maintenance.
  • Lead a cross-functional energy committee including staff and students, and coordinate with engineers on large-scale energy reduction projects.
  • Develop electrification strategies and cost-benefit analyses to align energy goals with future capital projects.
  • Review and update preventative maintenance schedules and monitor HVAC vendors to ensure compliance with service contracts.
  • Maintain records for NYSERDA and generate quarterly/annual reports quantifying energy savings and greenhouse gas reductions.
  • Develop energy-related training manuals and facilitate peer-to-peer sharing of findings through regional Facilities Manager groups and BOCES.

Compensation & Benefits 

 

Salary: $85,000 - $95,000/yr., commensurate with experience

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, Environmental Science, or a related field and three (3) years of experience in digital building automation systems/energy management software (Johnson Controls METASYS) and HVAC equipment (boilers, chillers, and pneumatic controls). 
  • Thorough knowledge of HVAC systems and the ability to perform complex cost-benefit analyses for energy upgrades.
  • Ability to track and trend usage patterns, analyze utility invoices, and quantify savings data.
  • Preferred experience in large-scale capital projects or energy use reduction initiatives.

Leadership Characteristics

  • Ability to manage multi-disciplinary teams and lead cross-functional committees.
  • Skill in analyzing data, preparing technical reports, graphing energy consumption trends, and presenting data to the Board of Education and external agencies.
  • Capable of creating educational materials for building occupants and conducting staff training sessions on energy conservation.
  • Strong sense of personal accountability in meeting seasonally adjusted energy benchmarks.
  • Ability to embrace change, establish and maintain good working relationships with colleagues, administration, and contractors. Exhibits good judgment, mental alertness, tact and courtesy.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite required. 
  • Physical condition commensurate with the responsibilities of the position.

Position Summary

To provide leadership and assistance in the development, implementation, and maintenance of effective Social Studies (grades 6–12) curriculum and instructional programming aligned with the district’s mission, values, and beliefs, and applicable State standards and regulations.

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Curriculum Development and Instructional Improvement

a) Provide leadership in the development of curriculum, including the scope and sequence of Social Studies programs and plans for continuity and vertical articulation from one level of achievement to the next.

b) Provide ongoing teaching support for all faculty and staff within Social Studies, including modeling, coaching, and other techniques, the purpose of which is to improve instruction.

c) Collaborate with building administrators and the Deputy Superintendent on the analysis of data on student performance from various measures to evaluate program effectiveness as it pertains to student performance.

d) Manage and coordinate related components of the Social Studies program (e.g., intervention supports, enrichment opportunities, course alignment, and assessment practices) in conjunction with other Academic Administrators, as warranted.

Personnel and Financial Management

a) Provide leadership in the effective supervision, evaluation, and professional development of assigned faculty.

b) Work collaboratively with the Deputy Superintendent to ensure that instructional programs and services are in compliance with District policy and applicable State standards and requirements.

c) Observe and evaluate, in collaboration with building administration, probationary teachers in the respective area of discipline.

d) Lead the process of hiring exemplary teachers, consistent with the high standards held by the school district.

e) Ensure that each teacher’s performance is assessed and reviewed to promote continuous growth.

f) Contribute to the development of a comprehensive budget, in conjunction with building principals and central office administration, that is supportive of the goals and objectives of the district and the needs of the discipline’s instructional program.

Equipment & Instructional Materials

a) Examine, evaluate, and recommend educational resources, including materials, new technology, textbooks, and facilities.

b) Responsible for purchasing, inventory, and the safe storage/use of materials/equipment.

c) Participate in the evaluation and selection of new materials in conjunction with building administrators, teaching staff, and central office administration.

Professional Development and Growth

a) Provide leadership and coordination with the Director of Professional Development in securing meaningful mentorship of all new faculty within the secondary Social Studies department, promoting their professional success.

b) Assist with the coordination and facilitation of pertinent and relevant professional development to all faculty within the academic discipline for the purpose of elevating their skill and knowledge consistent with the district goals and needs.


c) Actively participate in District-level committees

d) Participate in local, regional, and state professional associations.

School-Community Relations

a) Communicate with building principals and with members of the community in regard to matters related to the discipline.

b) Provide academic advice to parents and students in conjunction with counselors, psychologists, and other professionals.

c)  Manage recruitment and advisement for the New York State Seal of Civic Readiness.  Provide support as warranted to the adviser of Rho Kappa, Social Studies Honor Society.

d) Assist in the development and presentation of data and information regarding curricular and instructional programs to the Board of Education.

Organization and Administration

a) Recommend teaching assignments, course offerings, and sectioning for the academic discipline in conjunction with building administrators.

b) Assist building principals in the administration of all New York State and standardized assessments as well as local/common assessments relevant to Social Studies.

c) Participate as a member of the district’s administrative leadership team.

d) Undertake other duties as directed by the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee.


 

Qualifications

  • Valid School District Administrator (SDA) or School District Leader (SDL) certificate preferred; NYS School Administrator/Supervisor (SAS) or School Building Leader (SBL) certificate required
  • Valid NYS teaching certification in Social Studies (appropriate to grades 6–12) or related field
  • Minimum seven (7) years’ experience teaching Social Studies (grades 6–12) or related field; and/or three (3) years’ administration and supervision experience

Performs routine building cleaning duties of both the interior and exterior of the building.  These cleaning duties include:  cleaning and sanitizing bathrooms; dusting and polishing chairs, tables, desks and other furniture; sweeping, mopping, washing, waxing and vacuuming floors; painting interior and exterior of building; keeping sidewalks clean in summer, leaf removal in fall and ice and snow removal in winter; receives, moving and storing supplies for building occupants; arranging chairs, tables and other equipment for special use of the building; washing windows, both interior and exterior, walls and woodwork; replacing light bulbs, making minor repairs, operation of floor machinery, snow blowers and other duties, as needed. This person should also possess excellent people skills.
