Job Responsibilities

The position provides high-level clerical support to the school counselor office at the middle school level, responsibilities may include:

  • Greet and support student, staff and visitors; 
  • Answer phones and schedule appointments for counselors, students and parents;
  • Process transcript requests and other related office duties;
  • Maintain student folders;
  • Manage office budget;
  • Strong background in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace;
  • Ability to multitask in a very busy office environment;
  • High level of organizational and time management skills;
  • Work collaboratively with office staff and other district employees;
  • Additional duties as required.

 

Compensation & Benefits

Step 1 ($22.44/hr) - Step 7 ($29.18/hr)

Certifications/Qualifications

Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma (GED) and 2 years office experience with aptitude for learning new technology.  Ability to embrace change, establish and maintain good working relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and administration. Exhibits good judgment, mental alertness, tact and courtesy.  Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite required.  Experience with time and attendance, bookkeeping, and Student Information Systems, preferred.  Physical condition commensurate with the responsibilities of the position.

Job Responsibilities

The position performs moderately complex clerical and account-keeping work in support of the Finance Department, requiring independent judgment in applying established financial procedures, policies, and regulations, as well as a strong understanding of accounting practices and office operations.  Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting the Treasurer and Senior Accountant in performing professional accounting functions including maintenance of general ledgers, making journal entries, and reconciling account balances
  • Maintaining, reviewing, and reconciling financial records, requisitions, invoices/credits, and reports for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with District procedures
  • Classifying, posting, and distributing receipts, expenditures, and other financial transactions
  • Assisting with preparation, verification, and reconciliation of payroll, time and attendance, and related financial data
  • Preparing, Organizing, compiling, and analyzing tax, financial, statistical, and operational cost records, reports, and filing systems to comply with State, Federal, and third party requirements and reimbursement policies
  • Assisting with the planning and supervising the work of subordinate staff and assisting in developing and implementing new accounting system procedures
  • Conducting correspondence related to established financial policies and procedures with a variety of stakeholder groups
  • Working collaboratively with department staff and providing operational support as needed, and additional responsibilities as required.

Step 1 ($23.29/hr) - Step 7 ($30.13/hr)

Certifications/Qualifications

Graduation from regionally accredited or NYS registered college with an Associate’s degree (or higher) in Accounting and one (1) year of accounting or auditing experience which must have involved the maintenance and auditing of business or governmental agency. Ability to embrace change, establish and maintain good working relationships. Exhibits good judgment, mental alertness, tact and courtesy.  Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and financial computer software required.  Experience with Wincap software, preferred.  Physical condition commensurate with the responsibilities of the position.
