Job Responsibilities

The work involves a variety of non-teaching duties, the supervision of students and student activities and maintaining a safe and respectful environment.  Student supervision takes place in a variety of settings and may include hallways/corridors, study halls, cafeteria, bus ports, and campus grounds, including playgrounds or common areas.  Responsibilities may include:

  • Greets visitors, ascertains their business, ensures appropriate safety protocols are taken before permitting/directing the individual(s) to the proper location;
  • Takes attendance and ensures the whereabouts for students that are on campus, but not in assigned classroom, issues passes to students who are late to class, and may escort or transport assigned students between classes within the school;
  • Oversees and monitors student behaviors, may act as liaison to raise issues/concerns to the attention of teachers, counselors, and/or administrators;
  • Collaborates and communicates regularly with staff and administration;
  • May occasionally perform clerical duties such as making photocopies and organizing documents; and other responsibilities as required.

 

Compensation & Benefits

Step 1 ($19.73/hr) – Step 5 ($22.33 /hr)

Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma (GED) and experience with youth desirable.  Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and administration. Under the direction of the teacher, the aide will perform routine classroom duties including but not limited to monitoring students, managing records, materials, and equipment, collecting student data, carrying out modifications and accommodations such as behavior plans and testing accommodations.  Teacher aide is responsible for modeling appropriate social skills, facilitating social interaction, assisting with classroom work, and attending to student physical needs which may include assisting with student equipment, mobility, and toileting; other related duties as assigned.  Specific tasks will vary depending upon grade level and program assigned.

Job Responsibilities

This position provides support to students and staff by serving in various roles, both within and outside the classroom.  Much of the duty time involves interaction with classroom teachers and students and may include such activities as supervising recreation time or cafeteria time, escorting students to unified arts classes and helping children with routine tasks (i.e.: collecting student work, copying materials for distribution, guiding student work in small groups).  The actual duties are determined by the teachers to whom the aide is responsible and may vary throughout the school year.
