Job Responsibilities

The position provides routine cleaning and occasional minor maintenance of the building (both interior and exterior) to ensure a clean, safe, and healthy environment for students, staff, and community; responsibilities may include:

  • Supervises the performance of cleaning staff and reviews, prioritizes and assigns custodial and maintenance duties on a daily basis;
  • Responds to requests for cleaning and maintenance support and determines most effective method for solving problems;
  • Serves as custodial point of contact for school building cleanliness, including setup and cleanup of functions/events;
  • Using various tools and resources to assist with cleaning, maintenance, work order distribution, employee time and attendance tracking and reports as needed;
  • Heavy lifting and moving of furniture and/or equipment is required;
  • Maintains positive communications (verbal and written) with a variety of stakeholder groups including students, staff and administration; and additional responsibilities as required.

 

Compensation & Benefits

Step 1 ($53,670/yr) - Step 7 ($61,517/yr)

Certifications/Qualifications

Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma (GED) with aptitude for learning modern technologies and applying best practices. Ability to plan and supervise the work of others, understand and carry out verbal and written directions, and establish and maintain good working relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and administration. Solid working knowledge of building cleaning practices and economical and efficient use of supplies and equipment.  Exhibits good judgment, mental alertness, dependability, tact, and courtesy.  Physical condition commensurate with the responsibilities of the position.

This position is part of the New York State Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NYS HELPs).  No examination is required.  All interested applicants that meet the minimum civil service qualifications of a Custodian may apply.

Job Responsibilities

Supervises performance of the staff on a particular shift to ensure that the cleaning duties, both interior and exterior of the facility, are clean, safe, and a healthy environment for students and staff.  Performs routine cleaning duties of both the interior and exterior of the facility.  Cleaning duties include: cleaning and sanitizing bathrooms; dusting and polishing chairs, tables, desks and other furniture; sweeping, mopping, washing, waxing and vacuuming floors; painting; keeping sidewalks clean in summer, leaf removal in fall and ice and snow removal in winter; receiving, moving and storing supplies for building occupants; arranging chairs, tables and other equipment for special use of the building; washing windows, walls, and woodwork; replacing light bulbs and ballasts, making minor repairs, operation of floor machinery, snow blowers and additional responsibilities as assigned.

 

Compensation & Benefits

Step 1 ($25.34/hr) – Step 5 ($27.28/hr)

Certifications/Qualifications

Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma (GED) and experience in building cleaning.  Good working knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.  Ability to understand and carry out both verbal and written directions.  Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and administration. Exhibit thoroughness, good judgement, mental alertness, tact and courtesy.  Physical condition commensurate with the responsibilities of the position.

Job Responsibilities

The position monitors and controls access of individuals and activities on campus to ensure a safe and orderly environment for students, staff, and community; responsibilities may include:

  • Manages and controls campus traffic in high volume areas;
  • Conducts regular patrols and inspections across the campus;
  • Implements campus security measures consistent with best practices;
  • Maintains accurate, detailed incident reports and informs and warns violators of rule infractions;
  • Works collaboratively with administration, student resource officers, staff, and students;
  • Responds to requests across campus that require additional security and/or emergency assistance;
  • Maintains positive communications (verbal and written) with a variety of stakeholder groups including students, staff and administration; and additional responsibilities as required.

 

Compensation & Benefits

$18.87/hr

 

Certifications/Qualifications

Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma (GED) and a valid NYS Security Guard License and NYS Driver’s License.  Must have one (1) year experience working as campus patrol, security officer or equivalent with an aptitude to de-escalate situations and respond appropriately to emergencies.  Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with students, staff, administration, and community and to understand and carry out verbal and written directions. Solid understanding of emergency response protocols with ability to react, respond, and communicate.  Exhibits good judgment, mental alertness, dependability, tact, and courtesy.  Physical condition commensurate with the responsibilities of the position.
