Job Responsibilities
The Facilities & Grounds Maintenance Worker performs a variety of skilled building maintenance and groundskeeping duties to ensure District facilities and grounds are safe, functional, accessible, and well maintained throughout the year. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Performing year-round grounds maintenance including mowing, raking, cultivating, planting, and maintaining athletic fields, lawns, trees, shrubs, and landscaped areas
- Removing snow and ice from walkways, driveways, parking lots, and other District property using trucks, tractors with plows, and specialized equipment
- Applying sand and salt to maintain safe pedestrian and vehicle access during winter weather conditions
- Performing skilled maintenance and repair work involving plumbing, electrical wiring, painting, hardware, and other building systems
- Assisting with preventative maintenance activities for facilities and grounds equipment
- Conducting inspections of District property to identify maintenance and repair needs
- Installing shelving, storage cabinets, and mechanical equipment
- Maintaining supplies, inventory, and daily records of work performed, materials used, and time worked
- Assisting in the operation and maintenance of heating systems and other mechanical systems
- Collaborating with maintenance staff, groundskeepers, laborers, and other District personnel as needed
- Participating in trainings related to the safe and proper operation of equipment and systems
- Performing additional duties as assigned
Compensation & Benefits
Compensation and benefits are provided in accordance with the CSEA Collective Bargaining Agreement
Step 1 ($26.19/hr) – Step 5 ($27.12/hr)
Certifications/Qualifications
Candidates must possess a high school or equivalency diploma (GED) and:
- one (1) year experience as a journeyman in a recognized skilled trade OR
- four (4) years of experience in general building construction or maintenance work in one or more standard trades, including carpentry, plumbing, or electrical work
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Knowledge of building maintenance and repair practices
- Working knowledge of grounds maintenance activities and snow/ice removal operations
- Ability to safely operate heavy equipment and maintenance tools
- Ability to work independently and prioritize responsibilities based on operational needs and weather conditions
- Physical strength and endurance to perform manual labor in varying weather conditions
- Good judgment, reliability, flexibility, and the ability to work collaboratively with others
Candidates must possess and maintain a valid New York State Driver’s License appropriate for the type of vehicle operated. CDL license preferred for operation of heavy plow equipment.
