Reports to: Director of Information Management Services
Supervises: Systems Analysts and Computer Services Program Assistant
Overview of Role
The Systems Administrator serves as an active, contributing member of the Information Management Services department. The primary objective is managing, securing, and supporting the district's IT infrastructure, network operations, and information systems to ensure reliable technology for all staff and students. This role is responsible for system maintenance, data integrity for state reporting, and implementing software updates in compliance with NYSED standards.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Oversee configuration and management of GSuite accounts, network directory structures, and Wide Area Network (WAN) security.
- Manage and upgrade local and remote servers, including file, web, firewall, and mail servers.
- Coordinate and maintain all technology-related equipment, platforms, and applications.
- Manage user permissions, Active Directory, and password security while ensuring compliance with privacy regulations.
- Provide input on hardware/software obsolescence planning and lead systems-related projects.
- Monitor system performance, implement security patches, manage backups, and perform disaster recovery procedures.
- Maintain IP phone systems, security network systems, authentication servers, and mobile device management (MDM) systems.
- Manage and implement projects in collaboration with other departments and/or vendors.
- Provide tier two support, guidance, and training to Helpdesk technicians on new and existing systems.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary: $75,000 - $85,000/yr., commensurate with experience
District Administrative Support Staff (DASS)
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements (Either A, B, or C)
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Services, Management Information Systems (or related field) and three (3) years of experience in systems administration, technical support, or applications development.
- Associate’s degree in the fields noted above and five (5) years of experience in systems administration, technical support, or applications development.
- High school diploma or GED and seven (7) years of experience in systems administration, technical support, or applications development.
Training and/or Certifications
Must have knowledge of network/security protocols, server administration, and multiple network topologies (switches, routers, gateways, WAPs) and maintain appropriate training and certifications to satisfy position requirements, including:
- Google Workspace for Education
- Firewall Administration
- Multi-Factor System Administration
- SIEM Administration
- Endpoint Protection Management
- MDM Configuration.
Leadership Characteristics
Seeking a hardworking, industrious, and analytical professional who possesses:
- Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to non-technical staff.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
- Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills.
- Exhibits good judgment, mental alertness, tact, and courtesy.
- Ability to push, pull, lift, or move at least 50 lbs on a routine basis.
