Fleet Maintenance Supervisor

Transportation

8 hrs/day, 12 mos/year

Job Responsibilities

The position assists with the overall safety and efficient operation, fleet maintenance, and transportation of students within a school district, such responsibilities include:

  • Oversees the transportation fleet service, including parts inventory, preventative maintenance schedules, tracking federal, state, and local agency inspections/tests, coordination of service, maintenance, repairs, and replacement/disposal of fleet vehicles to ensure that vehicles meet all safety standards and requirements. 
  • Assists the Director in the preparation of and adherence to the department budget, including parts bidding, data collection, analysis and reporting for the purposes of fleet vehicle acquisition, assignment, utilization, fuel costs, routing, repair/replacement costs, and inspections.
  • Manages transportation employees including safety and training compliance, time and attendance records, performance evaluations, disciplinary and/or grievance procedures, as needed
  • Prepares reports and ensures compliance with regulatory agencies including NYS Education Department, Department of Transportation and Department of Motor Vehicles;
  • Attends and directs the completion of accident reports, filing of necessary insurance forms and department of transportation records.
  • May serve as liaison between school administrators and parents for the transportation of students to/from public and private school locations;
  • Contributes to a positive working environment through effective communications and demonstrated tact, courtesy, and dependability;
  • Interprets and administers collective bargaining agreements as it relates to transportation department processes and procedures; and additional responsibilities as required.

 

Compensation & Benefits

Salary: $75,000 - $85,000/yr, commensurate with experience

District Administrative Support Staff (DASS)

 

Certifications/Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree (or higher) from a regionally accredited registered college or university in Business Administration, Public Administration, Transportation Planning, or a related field and four (4) years experience in maintenance and repair and/or operation of multi passenger vehicles, two (2) of which must include leadership or supervisor responsibilities. 
  • Must possess CDL-B license with a P and S endorsement and be able to pass DOT physical, hold NYSED School Bus Driver Instructor (SBDI), and DMV 19-A Certification.  Must also hold or be able to obtain within 30 days of hire, NYSDEC class B UST (bulk storage) operator certification.  
  • Solid knowledge of best driving safety practices, including NYS motor vehicle laws and applicable regulations of NYS Department of Transportation and NYS Education Department.  
  • Ability to plan and direct the work of subordinates, maintain data, records, and produce reports, as well as establish and maintain good working relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and administration. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and administration. Exhibit good judgement, mental alertness, tact and courtesy.  Physical condition commensurate with the responsibilities of the position.
