Security Monitor (Schools)

High School

8 hrs/day, 10 mos/year

Mon-Fri, 7:00am – 3:30pm

Job Responsibilities

The position provides supervision of students and student activities primarily at the high school level to ensure a safe and orderly environment for students, staff, and community; responsibilities may include:

  • Primarily supervises unsecured and/or high volume areas such as hallways and restrooms.  May also provide supervision in other structured/static roles across campus, including but not limited to traffic/bus ports;
  • Establishes rapport with students, reinforces positive behaviors and student compliance; acts as a sounding board to assist them with their concerns/problems or refer them to someone on the professional staff;
  • Monitors interactions between students, intervening when a situation appears to require it, by providing crisis prevention and intervention to avoid physical altercations and/or harm;
  • Oversees, monitors, and addresses problematic student behaviors in a calm, non-confrontational manner using a continuum of responses to achieve desired correction; works collaboratively with administration, student resource officers, staff, and students to maintain a safe and orderly environment;
  • Implements building security measures consistent with best practices and responds to requests within the building that require additional security and/or emergency assistance;
  • Participates in required trainings, including de-escalation, therapeutic crisis intervention (TCI), and incident command to ensure active membership of the building incident response team;
  • Maintains positive communications (verbal and written) with a variety of stakeholder groups including students, staff and administration;
  • May be required to respond to districtwide situations that require additional security or emergency assistance; and additional responsibilities as required.

 

Compensation & Benefits

Step 1 ($22.07/hr) - Step 5 ($23.88/hr)

Certifications/Qualifications

Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma (GED) and a valid NYS Security Guard License and NYS Driver’s License.  Must have two (2) years experience working with youth as campus patrol, security officer or equivalent with an aptitude to de-escalate situations and respond appropriately to emergencies.  Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with students, staff, administration, and community and to understand and carry out verbal and written directions. Solid understanding of emergency response protocols with ability to react, respond, and communicate.  Exhibits good judgment, mental alertness, dependability, tact, and courtesy.  Physical condition commensurate with the responsibilities of the position.

*THIS WILL BE A PROVISIONAL APPOINTMENT* In order to be appointed permanently to this competitive position the individual must take the Saratoga County civil service exam for the job classification of Security and Grounds Monitor (Schools)  and be reachable on the resulting Saratoga County civil service list.
