Job Responsibilities
This position provides supervision as well as dispatching of all bus drivers and bus attendants in a large school district. This position assists in the development of computer generated bus routes in accordance with district policies and procedures. This position is also responsible for seeing that school buses are properly staffed and following established routes and prepared time schedules. The work is performed under the general supervision of the Director of Transportation with leeway allowed for independent judgment in carrying out the details of the work. Does related work as required.
- Operates the District’s computerized fleet routing and scheduling program;
- Dispatches drivers and buses on assigned daily routes;
- Prepares time schedules for bus routes for public school and non-public school pupils in the district;
- May act as a liaison between school district and parents regarding pupil transportation problems and issues;
- Maintains time and attendance records for transportation personnel and assigns substitute drivers, as necessary;
- Makes recommendations for improved efficiency of bus routes;
- May operate a school bus on assigned route; and
- Prepares a variety of records and reports as required by Department of Motor Vehicles and State Education Department.

Step 1 ($58,021/yr) - Step 7 ($66,500/yr)

Certifications/Qualifications
Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma (GED) and three (3) years of experience as a school bus driver or vehicle dispatcher; CDL-BP license with “P” and “S” endorsement and/or the ability to maintain endorsements; and strong computer skills with aptitude for learning new software technology required. Good knowledge of school transportation systems and methods and the operation of buses and bus fleets with geographical knowledge of the community. Ability to plan, direct, and supervise the work of others. Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
